New York City’s first Fashion’s Night Out on September 10, 2009 was like a progressive supper but with mad mad style! Designer stores turned into nightclubs, champagne was flowing and celebrities and supermodels mingled with the masses.
My destination was the Ann Taylor store on Madison Avenue to see one of my favorite reality TV peeps, Stacy London, live and in person. I have spent more Friday nights with Stacy and Clinton over the years than I should admit out loud and I just adore their mission and them.
The store was filled with women who couldn’t wait to hug Stacy and tell her how much they loved her. Stacy was adorable, down-to-earth and not afraid to tell you if your pants were too short or your hair looked like poo. She chatted with everyone and posed for picture after picture. Stacy then took to the microphone and in true Stacy style inspired everyone to embrace their uniqueness, shop for long-wear, to be relevant not trendy and showed us how to work with the newest Ann Taylor collection and pieces.
My favorite Stacy quote from the night, which should be a daily mantra for all of us, was “And what Ann Taylor has done with this new collection is really embody the philosophy I’ve tried to spread throughout this land on ‘What Not to Wear’ which is that You are you, and nobody can be like You … and THAT makes you Perfect just the way you are!” (cheers to that, girlfriends!)
After leaving AT, we made our way up Madison. Stopping to say “Hi” to the cutie-patootie sitting in the tennis chair outside of Cole Haan, where Maria Sharapova’s collection inspired a Tennis theme – including a giant tennis ball inside the store filled with Dylan’s Candy Shop Lollipops. Swedish fish and jelly beans could also be found.
Across the street at DKNY, the party was just getting started. Great music and fine munchies – including mini cupcakes which went down so fast and easy I think I inhaled six of them in ten minutes. And the salty popcorn was some of the best I’ve had in a while. We even saw Donna Karan herself and I’m pretty sure I flew by some of the housewives of NYC.
All in all a great night, a unique event and hopefully the first of many to come!
David Cook rocked the Nokia in Times Square NYC last Thursday. He just keeps getting better and hotter, it’s not right. I’m going to have to move to Antarctica to cool off…mercy, please David!!
The Band Green River Ordinance warmed up the room before DC came on stage. Lead singer, Josh Jenkins , was f-in HIGHlarioius! Charming as all get out – these guys are southern after all. Here they are -
Highlights:
Solo rendition of “Lie to Me” – He stops in the middle of the song, steps in front of the mike up to the edge of the stage, with one finger over his lips instructing the crowd to ssshhhhh sssshhh. In the still quiet, stripped of amplifiers, acapella he belts out the chorus, “so lie to me, tell me that we’re gonna be alright, lie to me and tell me that we’ll make it through the night…”
David sings, “don’t say a word, I’m ok with the silence” & so are we, yes, so are we.…WOW, shut the front door!! Awesomeness personified!! Loving him!! & his band, the David Cook band, sounded super-tight with new base guitarist.
His brother Andrew made a cameo.
How much do I love his song “Heroes”!!?? Let me count thy ways, #1 it’s my ringtone, #2 it gets 5 out of 5 stars in my itunes library, #3…, etc. & btw here’s a snippet…
Then DC brought back an old 80’s classic, “Died in your Arms” by Cutting Crew. The dude was still in diapers when this song came out – kudos to him for recognizing artists through the ages. Once again, he also performed Fleetwood Mac’s “tell me lies”.
David performed at GMA the following morning & Regis & Kelly. I don’t know how he could have possibly gotten any sleep given that his show ended at 11pm. But yet he managed to look bright eyed and bushy tailed at GMA in a pink and white plaid button-down long sleeved shirt leaving a few unbuttoned to reveal a hint of skin & highlight his neck…speaking of which, did I mention he sang “kiss on the neck”. Hearing David utter the word “kiss” is almost too much to take.

Jillian and Ed sitting in a tree…KISSING. Well, the long-awaited day was finally here. Tonight we finally found out who Jillian Harris picked to be the love of her life. And the final rose goes to erectile dysfunction, greg brady look-a-like, bad dresser, and come-back kid ED!
We return to the big island of Hawaii for the Bachelorette season finale! Kiptyn and Ed meet Jillian‘s family. Ed lays his feelings on the line to Jillian‘s mum and dad telling him he is in love with her and basically asks Jillian‘s father how he would feel about Ed proposing. Jillian‘s parents like Ed and Kiptyn. Jillian‘s mom has a list of about 26 questions for each of the boys. Jillian’s grandmother practically tonsil hockeys the lads. And Jillian‘s cousin was probably thinking ‘toss what ya don’t want my way.’
Jillian and Ed get another chance at romance (and to see if the viagra Eds been taking has kicked in yet). We see more underwater shots of them entwined in each other swimming and Ed shows us his green mankini some more. They go for a walk in a rainforest and end up in a bed. As they roll around on the bed, cut to image of a volcano errupting – producers metaphoric message was about the damn funniest thing on the show! So, guess we are to assume that Ed‘s apparatus rose to the occasion and a good time was had by all.
Kiptyn and Jillian have another chance at love too. And we have plenty of chances to check out Mr. 8-pack shirtless! Kiptyn is one hot piece of ass. Jillian and Kiptyn row out on a surfboard and kiss and are plenty lovey-dovey. They spend another night together – lucky gal!
The morning of the finale rose ceremony, Jillian sips her coffee out on the balcony reflecting on her decision. She slips into a strapless white wedding type dress and walks out across a pool of blue to the spot where she will break someone’s heart and make someone else’s day. First out of the limo is Kiptyn. Sigh. He’s getting dumped now we all know. He walks towards Jillian and talks about all the dates and places they’ve been together and tells her that he’s fallin in love with her and wants to be with her. Jillian breaks the news to him that while he is everything she could ever have dreamed of having, she’s fallen for someone else. For the first time in his life, Kiptyn is the dumped instead of the dumpee. He takes it well and like a man and says all he wants is for her to be happy.
Kiptyn leaves but before Ed can arrive, an SUV type vehicle pulls up, white sneakers step out of the car and reveal cutie-patootie Reid is back. Chris Harrison tells him he doesn’t have much time to say what he’s there to say and motions him thru to Jillian. Jillian, relieved now that she’s just gotten thru the hard part of letting Kiptyn go and thinking now she can focus on her happy decision to be with Ed, is stunned to see Reid walking towards her. She grabs on to Reid and does not let go. Reid tells her that he let his fears get in the way but that he is in love with her and wants to spend the rest of his life with her and he drops to his knees to propose. Jillian tells him to get up and that she is overwhelmed. She needs time to think. Meanwhile, Ed‘s in his limo thinking, “didn’t we just pass that pineapple stand?”
Jillian goes inside where Chris Harrison finally joins her. And with minimal therapy says to her, you know what to do. you know what you’re feeling. you love Ed? you want to spend the rest of your life with him? And with that Jillian affirms that the decision she made earlier is the decision she is sticking to. She returns to Reid and tells him that she wanted him to say all these things to her a few weeks ago, but she was really happy and excited with the decision she made before he came back and that she is in love with someone else.
Distraught and rejected again, Reid leaves. Ed arrives and is greeted with a smile by Chris. He walks to Jillian who is smiling from ear to ear. The snot has been washed from her face and lipstick has been reapplied. Ed tells Jillian he loves her and wants to spend the rest of his life with her, have children with her, but before he goes any further he has to know how she feels about him. Jillian, who looks like she has ants in her pants with excitement, blurts out that she loves him too. That’s Ed‘s cue to get down on his knee and propose as he puts the pear shaped diamond ring on Jillian‘s finger. In Jillian fashion, she jumps up and hugs him and wraps her legs around him. Then Jillian rides piggy-back on Ed as they scamper away into never-never land.
The Bachelorette After the Final Rose tomorrow should be interesting. I’m sure Kiptyn and Reid are now top contenders for being the next Bachelor. We’ll see how that goes.
