Well my friends and fellow David Cook-a-holics tonight’s season finale stand off was ridiculous. It was introduced and moderated by the boxing world’s MCs. Did anyone else miss Ryan’s “THISSSSSS ………………………….long awkward pause……………………..IS AMerican IDol!! I hate to say it, but I think I did. We were clobbered over the head with the tired old boxing analogy throughout the night….yes, we get it, it’s a competition, david vs. david the fight of the century – especially because they are two men (or a man and a boy) with the SAME NAME !! OMG how could it BE possible!? Two guys named David end up as the final two. That’s totally weird man. There’s one David and oh, look, over there, it’s another …another…oh my gosh, another David!! It could have been cook vs. cook too, but Kristy-Lee couldn’t stir the sauce long enough or blow Simon out of his socks more than once. I digress..
None the less, as far as this DC fan is concerned, tonight was a cook-off, and Archie’s invitation got lost in the mail. Yes, yes, Archie did bring down the vocals (as always) but for once he actually put some emotion into his performances – something that’s been lacking, I don’t know, uh, the ENTIRE F-ING Season!! DC’s first two performances were not his best, but the third was brilliant! And DC’s not best is still awesome. Archie had his moment finally. He sang great and with emotion something he hasn’t been able to do all season. He’s been the singing android from America’s heartland. That he was able to bring on the emotion is not surprising as this is an emotional night for him.
So I am disappointed b/c the judges seemed to turn on DC in favor of Archie. I think they didn’t get it (especially Simon, next in line is Randy, and Paula played Switzerland as usual). Despite Archie’s inspired performances, they pale in comparison to DC’s third performance of the night. DC is thee artist. I feel the judges also did not highlight and acknowledge DC’s gift and artistry that he has demonstrated week after week and been rightfully praised for. He is amazing and a really sweet, sincere guy, smart and fun. I hope DC wins the title b/c if we look over all the performances he hands down slays the competition.
I must get back to dialing for my Idol. We have a couple hours left and I plan to get all my votes in.
I’ve been training and practicing speed dialing on my cell phone for this very night for months.
